Coach Annie Whitney has been a CrossFitter for nearly four years and specializes in encouragement. “I love learning what drives and motivates others and capitalizing on that,” she says. “When an athlete does that which they had believed to be impossible, either physically or mentally, it breaks down all kinds of barriers. The world is opened up when our perceptions are proved wrong and we begin to learn what we can do!”
Passionate about the community at our gym, Annie says the best results are achieved “when we struggle together, experience pain together, push each other, and celebrate one another’s victories as our own. “Having a community that believes in each other makes a big difference in and out of the gym.”
An athlete who has competed in multiple sprint triathlons and half-marathons, Annie earned one top three finish in her age group in Highlands Ranch. “I have completed one Olympic Triathlon, one full marathon, and the Greenland 50k trail run,” she says. “I completed the Bailey Hundito (a 50-mile mountain bike race in 2015) and my bum was very sore.” Her CrossFit competitions include the Festivus Games and the Do More Charity Challenge in 2015, as well as competition in the Open 2015-17. “I look forward to an Xterra triathlon in the future, and my husband and I would like to do a Couples CrossFit Competition.”
Speaking of her firefighter husband, Annie found CrossFit through him and stuck with it because of the variety of workouts, being able to see and track her improvements, and most of all the PEOPLE.
