Coach Elizabeth Rumbel Perez specializes in making CrossFit accessible to people of all ages and abilities. “I especially love working with beginners who might be new to CrossFit (or fitness in general),” she says. “CrossFit is infinitely scalable and I am passionate about thinking through ways to modify movements so that anyone, in any stage of their life, can participate and be challenged. I love watching the transformations! Not just physical transformations, but the mental ones, too—like coaching my athletes to say ‘I can’t do that yet’ instead of ‘I can’t do that.’”
Elizabeth’s mission is to change the narrative of wellness to be much more holistic than just our physical bodies (broadening our understanding of health to also include emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, environmental). She is committed to advocating for health equity and policy/systems changes that address the social determinants of health.
While her own fitness journey began with yoga, Elizabeth’s athletic background includes including half- marathons (the Nike Women’s Half in both San Francisco and D.C.), and CrossFit competitions (Festivus Games). “I also appreciate the solitude of nature and frequently find myself hiking in the backcountry of our national parks,” she says. She also has a full-time career in public health, and has done everything from community organizing, to thinking about how the built environment and zip codes can impact health, to health coaching, to presenting on national webinars. She credits her mom as her “fitspiration,” especially since her mom’s heart attack has taught her all about radical self-care.
